Clean Air Council's Commitment to Privacy

Clean Air Council is committed to the privacy and confidentiality of its members and website visitors. To better protect personal information it collects, the Council freely discloses its information practices and displays its privacy policy on its website.

Collecting Personal Information
In order to safeguard private information, including email addresses and donation information, the Council partners with DemocracyInAction.org, a sophisticated, integrated online campaign platform used by nonprofits, which provides a full-featured donation service. DemocracyInAction.org is committed to keeping personal information private and confidential. DemocracyInAction.org uses Advanced Encryption Standard, a Federal Information Processing Standard, to secure and protect personal data it receives.

Giving through the Council's DonateNow Feature
Donations made through the Council’s website are administered by DemocracyInAction.org. When a donation is made to the Council, using the DonateNow button, personal data is collected by DemocracyInAction.org, in order to properly process the donation. This information may include: name, address, phone, email address, credit card information, "acknowledgement" or "in memory of" information, and donation amount. DemocracyInAction.org shares only information necessary for the Council to properly acknowledge gifts. Credit card information is always kept confidential by DemocracyInAction.org and is discarded after a donation is processed. In the case of an anonymous donation, only the gift amount is shared with the Council.

How the Council Uses Information
When visiting the Council’s website, no personally identifying information is collected. The Council does, however, monitor the number of hits per page its website receives. This information is used for website improvement purposes and is only used internally.

Visitors to the Council’s website who simply wish to receive regular email updates about clean air issues have the option of submitting their email address through a secure online form. Visitors wishing to make an online donation to Clean Air Council may visit the Council’s donation page, where their personal information is collected and secured through DemocracyInAction.org.

“E-mail Updates” participants may request to be removed from the “Email Updates” list at any time. In this case, the e-mail address is permanently deleted from the records of Clean Air Council and DemocracyInAction.org. Return e-mail addresses are used only to answer e-mail the Council receives and are deleted after a response by the Council is provided.

Privacy Policy Changes
Any changes to Clean Air Council's privacy policy will be updated on the Council's homepage.
