Aug. 10, 2005: Recycling Could Save City $17 Million
On August 10th, Philadelphia City Controller Jonathan Saidel released a report of Philadelphia's recycling program. The report concludes that Philadelphia could save up to $17 million if the city's recycling programs were fully implemented. The report also makes several recommendations to improve city recycling services and increase the city's recycling diversion rate from 6% to over 35%. The Recycling Alliance met with the City Controller's office on several occasions over the past year and the Alliance's 2004 report, "Saving Tax Dollars: A Citizen's Report on Recycling," helped bring to light the possibilities for Philadelphia's recycling program to bring both financial and quality of life benefits to citizens.
