Clean Air Council's issue work falls within the six main program areas described by our mission statement. These areas are:

Indoor Air Pollution
Clean Air Council considers indoor air pollution to be a serious threat to public health. The Council has channeled its efforts towards increasing awareness of the problems associated with Radon and Environmental Tobacco Smoke.

Children's Environmental Health
Environmental Toxins Are Harming Our Children's Health!
Children are uniquely vulnerable to environmental health factors. Learn about the dangers facing our children and what you can do help.

Air Pollution
The Council is the leading environmental organization in Pennsylvania forcing the state and federal government to fully implement the Clean Air Act. Over the last few years, the Council has implemented an aggressive program on Clean Air Act implementation consisting of government oversight, constituency building, and media outreach, to ensure that Pennsylvania is fully meeting its obligations under the Clean Air Act.

Energy
The aim of the Energy Team at Clean Air Council is to identify and alleviate pollution resulting from energy production and consumption. The Energy Team works on a number of programs aimed at consumers, electricity generators and suppliers, and state and federal regulators. The Council works through educational programs, policy work, and legal advocacy.

Waste and Toxics
The Council's waste reduction and recycling program has been at the forefront of the waste reduction and recycling movement in Philadelphia since the late 1980's. The Council works to reduce waste and promote recycling throughout the state.

Transportation
Clean Air Council's work in the area of transportation goes back almost to the Council's beginning thirty-two years ago. As the litigator responsible for forcing Pennsylvania to implement the automobile Inspection and Maintenance program back in the '70s, Clean Air Council established its interest in transport-related pollution issues. Today, transportation associated problems extend to concerns over not only mobile source air pollution and its health effects, but also fossil fuel consumption, greenhouse gas reduction, land use impacts and sprawl.
