Trinity Distribution Service Enters into Agreement with Clean Air Council to Remove Diesel Generators
On Friday September 9, 2011, the Clean Air Council entered into an agreement with Trinity Distribution Services and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) to fund the electrification of outlets for Trinity’s refrigerated containers.
The funding for this project is coming from E. I. du Pont de Nemours, a multinational science-based products and services company headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware. DuPont’s payment of these funds is the result of an agreement made with DNREC under the state’s Coastal Zone Act, whereby, in order to obtain the permit to construct two new boilers on its Edge Moor facility, DuPont was required to fund the offset of air pollutants that will be generated by constructing these new facilities.
The agreement signed between the Clean Air Council, Trinity and DNREC will result in the installation of 20 outlets to be used for refrigerated containers at the Trinity Distribution Services site near the Port of Wilmington on Rogers Road. This project will significantly improve air quality as it will eliminate the need for the refrigerated containers to run on diesel. Ultimately, the new outlets will result in the eradication of close to 100 tons of air pollutants yearly.
The project could take up to six months to complete, and once installed, Trinity plans to host an event celebrating the installation of the new generators in conjunction with the Clean Air Council and DNREC.
