SE Pa. on tap for state conservation grants

Philadelphia and its four surrounding counties have received state conservation and recreation grants that are designed to protect habitats, save open space, and create or improve recreation sites.

Statewide, 27 grants were awarded to acquire more than 2,200 acres of land.

The 189 total grants, for $23 million, were awarded through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, with funding from a portion of the realty transfer tax and the Growing Greener program.
