(Washington, D.C. – October 5, 2012) A coalition of public health and environmental groups has formally asked the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit for a rehearing on the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) petitioned the court for an en banc rehearing this morning. Five groups – American Lung Association, Clean Air Council, Environmental Defense Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Sierra Club – just filed a petition with the court as intervenors in the case in support of EPA.
The petition states:
“The Public Health Intervenors respectfully seek rehearing … The implications of the panel’s ruling for clean air are serious … The Rule will save tens of thousands of lives per year, avoid hundreds of thousands of serious illnesses, and improve air quality for 240 million Americans.”
