Show Love to EPA this Valentine’s Day
Since the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Clean Air Act began in 1970, U.S. GDP has tripled, despite historical claims of economic ruin from polluting industries. Yet, despite a 40-year track record of protecting public health without bankrupting industry, the 112th Congress has been riddled with anti-EPA sentiment and several misguided bills to restrict, defund or strip EPA of it’s authority to regulate carbon pollution under the Clean Air Act. A short-term government funding bill set for a floor vote next week includes proposed cuts of about $2 billion from U.S. EPA and could include other measure that would threaten public health.
In the face of this attack on public health, over 1,500 people from across Pennsylvania and New Jersey have shown appreciation for U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson's efforts to enforce strong standards to protect their families’ health and hold corporate polluters accountable by sending a valentine. Join Clean Air Council, Sierra Club and others to deliver these valentines to the EPA Region 3 Office at lunchtime on Valentines Day (Monday, February 14th).
