Clean Air Council
Statement on the Bush Administration's Decision Not to Regulate
Greenhouse Gases
Joseph Otis Minott, Esq., Executive Director, Clean Air
Council:
Clean Air Council believes
the Environmental Protection Agency does have the authority
to regulate greenhouses gases under the Clean Air Act. Legal
interpretations aside, one thing is clear: if the President
wanted greenhouse gases to be regulated, they'd be regulated.
This isn't a question of administrative authority. It's
a question of political will. The truth is, the Bush administration
is more interested in protecting their supporters in polluting
industries than in protecting the public's health and well-being.
Lancaster County is home to the most productive non-irrigated
farmland in America. What's going to happen to our local
economy when things really start heating up? By failing
to address global warming, the Bush administration is failing
Pennsylvania and failing the nation.
President Bush has sided with corporate special interests
again and again when it comes to global warming. From Kyoto
to fuel efficiency, the Bush administration has shown itself
to be completely unwilling to address this issue. It's long
past time for Congress to step in."
