Statement
of Clean Air Council on Senator Carper's
Environmental Leadership
Joseph
Otis Minott, Esq.
Executive Director,
Clean Air Council
(302) 691-0112 x223
CAC applauds Senator Carper's efforts
to defeat the Bush Administration's attempts to weaken the
Clean Air Act. The President's industry supported bill would
allow power plants to put off reducing their mercury pollution
for an extra 10 years. It would also let big energy companies
get out of reducing their emissions of other pollutants
for another two decades. Senator Carper's outstanding leadership
on this issue has prevented big utilities from buying their
way out of obeying the nation's air pollution laws.
The Clean Air Act, as written, should
be fully implemented and enforced in order to protect public
health and the environment. Clean Air Council looks forward
to working with Senator Carper to improve air quality and
reduce global warming.
