Clean Diesel Project Category AFTER-TREATMENT RETROFIT DEVICE/CLEAN FUELS
Project Description

The entire fleet of 141 school buses at North Penn School District is running on Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD). 28 of these buses have been retrofitted with a Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOCs). An additional 28 of North Penn's older 1986 buses have been replaced with modern, cleaner vehicles.

Background

In the spring of 2004, North Penn School District (NPSD) was awarded a 2-year grant from Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to subsidize the cost of switching to ULSD. "We are proud of, and remain committed to, our efforts and contributions to a cleaner, safer environment for our children and the community that we serve," said Transportation Coordinator, Marianne Cleary.

Update

North Penn School District has joined a consortium of 7 schools to share costs in purchasing ULSD. They were successful in locking in at a low fixed price for purchasing ULSD for the 2005-06 school year.
