Activist Job Description
To increase our influence and build support
for issues that matter, Clean Air Council is leading an
aggressive new membership recruitment effort, involving
public events, direct mail, and a professional community-outreach
program.
You will work with a team of canvassers,
performing educational outreach and speaking with about
30 people each evening. Hours are approximately 2:00 PM
till 10:30 PM.
You will recruit members and volunteers, collect small contributions,
and generate petition signatures, letters and phone calls
on key campaign issues.
You will raise funds to finance campaign activities, identify
sustainers, patrons, and other high level donors to the
Councils work.
While recruiting members and collecting
contributions, petition signatures, and letters, you will
also learn what it takes to build grassroots support and
mobilize voters and taxpayers to take action. See firsthand
how we build coalitions, run press conferences, and hold
meetings with local government officials or editorial boards,
and learn about environmental issues and what can be done
about them.
You will learn how to motivate and mobilize a group of activists
around specific campaign goals. Learn the art of effective
fund-raising and how to train others. Recruit members, identify
volunteers and conduct letter-writing campaigns that will
have an impact.
Advanced positions require training new staff in effective
community outreach and fundraising skills. You will be responsible
for coordinating travel of a crew safely to and from the
field each day, planning logistics of canvassing specified
townships, and communicating with township officials to
allow reasonable regulation of The Council's efforts in
each community.
Starting salary for full time staff is $400/wk plus bonus
and benefits. Rapid advancement possibilities are available.
